About Company Search UK

We make UK company information easier to find, easier to read and easier to share.

Searching and viewing the company summary is free. The £14.99 PDF report is optional.

What we do

Company Search UK lets anyone search the UK company register by company name or company registration number and view core company information free of charge. When you need that information in a presentable, shareable format, we prepare a professionally formatted company report as a PDF document.

The register itself is public and comprehensive, but it is built for filing rather than for reading. Our job is presentation: pulling the relevant sections together, laying them out clearly, and stamping the document with the date and time the data was retrieved so it still makes sense months later.

Why the service exists

Most people who look up a UK company are trying to answer a practical question before money or a commitment changes hands. Is this business registered? Is it still active? Who runs it, and who actually owns it? Is anything obviously overdue?

Those answers exist on the public register, spread across several places. Reading them on screen is fine for a quick check. It is less useful when the answer has to be attached to a tender, filed with a client record or sent to an adviser, which is what the report is for.

Who we are not

We are an independent commercial service. We are not Companies House, we are not part of the UK Government, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by either. Companies House provides the underlying public register and offers its own free search service. Our reports are independently prepared and are not official or certified Companies House documents.

If you have been asked for a certified or apostilled document, you need Companies House directly, not this service. Our page on the UK company extract explains that distinction in full.

Where our information comes from

Company information is sourced from the Companies House public register. It contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Companies House does not verify the accuracy of everything filed with it, so the register reflects what companies have filed rather than an independently audited position.

Every report records the date and time the underlying data was retrieved, so you always know how current the information is. See data sources and updates for how often information changes and what the register cannot tell you.

What you are paying for

  • Retrieval of the relevant records from the public register at the time you order
  • Organisation and structuring of that information into readable sections
  • Report preparation, layout and professional presentation
  • PDF generation and an immediate download from your order confirmation page
  • A dated snapshot that states its own source and retrieval time

You are not paying for the underlying public data itself, which remains freely available from Companies House. The company reports page sets out exactly what is free and what the £14.99 report adds, and the sample company report shows the document itself.
