UK company address search

Every UK company must have a registered office address, and it is public. Search a company by name or number and the free summary shows the registered office exactly as filed.

Free to search. Company Search UK is an independent service and is not Companies House or part of the UK Government.

What a registered office address is

The registered office is the company's official address for correspondence. Legal notices and post from Companies House and HMRC go there, and it must be a real address in the same UK jurisdiction the company is registered in.

It is not necessarily where the business operates. Many companies use their accountant's office, a solicitor's office or a registered office service, which is entirely normal and legal.

  • Must be a physical address, not a PO box alone
  • Must be in the jurisdiction of registration — England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland
  • Is public and appears on the register
  • Can be changed by filing with Companies House
  • Is often an agent's or accountant's address rather than a trading site

Registered office versus trading address

  • Registered office — official, on the register, for legal correspondence
  • Trading address — where the business actually operates, not necessarily filed
  • Service address — where an officer receives correspondence personally
  • Single alternative inspection location — where certain records are kept, if used

Why many companies share one address

Seeing hundreds of companies at the same address is common and usually means nothing more than a formation agent, accountancy firm or serviced office is providing registered office services there.

It is context, not evidence. Treat a shared address as a reason to check other things — status, filing history, incorporation date — rather than as a conclusion in itself.

Reasons people look up a company address

  • Serving a legal notice or formal letter correctly
  • Confirming the address given on an invoice or contract matches the register
  • Sending correspondence when a trading address is not answering
  • Recording the registered office in an onboarding or supplier file
  • Understanding whether a business is where it claims to be based

Recording the address in a document

Addresses change, so a dated record is useful if a dispute is possible. The optional PDF report includes the registered office alongside the wider register sections, with the retrieval date printed on every page.

  • Everything in the free company summary
  • Current and former officers, with appointment and resignation dates where recorded
  • Persons with significant control recorded on the register
  • Accounts and confirmation statement dates and filing position
  • Registered charges, and whether they are outstanding or satisfied
  • Insolvency information where it exists
  • A filing history summary
  • A dated, formatted A4 PDF you can download, print, email and keep

Free website search compared with the paid PDF report

Searching this site and viewing a company summary is free. The optional PDF report is paid, and what you are paying for is convenience: retrieval, formatting, a dated snapshot and a document you can download and keep.
